The client is a leading Healthcare technology solutions company in the US providing innovative technology, quality services and strategic partnerships that help practices grow profitably, improve patient outcomes, run efficiently and remain compliant with federal and state regulations.

DotThe Challenges

A Single application for Immunization Workflow Improvements desiring accurate visualization of the patient’s historical record & support. Electronic Health Record (EHR) application development involved multiple technologies to build the new immunization schedule for age and interval level.


Re-establishing communications as a single HUB between:


  • EHR platform.
  • Data exchange partners (Immunization Registry, Lab, Health Information Exchange (HIE)).
  • With other Product lines (Electronic Prescriptions, Patient Messaging, Patient Engagement, Revenue Cycle Management etc.).

Lab Result Retrieval Automation, as the health care providers, used to retrieve laboratory results from third-party clinicians and downloaded it manually through application UI.

With a mission to improve lives through innovative solutions the client aimed at enabling their customers to turn, patient-driven care into reality. They desired immunization workflow improvement that would ultimately enhance the customer experience. In addition, they aimed at overall application architecture and design enhancements of their proprietary electronic health record (EHR) and practice management platform for user-friendly, specialty-focused solutions for ambulatory healthcare practices.

DotThe Solution

The client’s electronics health record (EHR) platform offered a user-friendly, specialty-focused EHR solution for ambulatory healthcare practices but was loosely connected internally and lacked accurate visualization of the patient’s historical record and support & development services.


JK Tech’s certified Progress and .NET resources developed a critical interface that was connected with the client’s system while conducting an overall system assessment. The communication link between client’s proprietary electronic health record (EHR), data exchange partners, and product lines through an exchange hub to interact in the same language considering demographics, charge, clinical data, lab results, etc. This not only eliminated the existing point-to-point (PTP) interface but also acted as a single point of data exchange between the electronic health records and external systems. A Dev/QA tool was also developed so that the XML-based data model could be generated, visualized, and tested by developers and QAs using the platform application before sending it to the exchange Hub for integration testing.

To fulfill the need for the platform-immunization Workflow Improvements, the architecture was enhanced to integrate age, interval, and recurring based schedules. The application was intensified to forecast for all doses considering the scenario of maximum age.


For the Lab Result Retrieval, existing business logic was enhanced in such a way that the existing manual process of the lab result was automated. In addition, a new lab retrieval schedule service was introduced which could schedule the lab result download as required and implemented resources’- time -saving background process with preprogrammed alert to the provider. The automated process ran in the background and providers could work on other tasks.

DotThe Benefits

  • Achieved functionality of multiple schedule types using a combination schedule type which includes a combination of age, interval, and recurring thus reducing the overhead of looking into multiple schedules. This made the process quick and efficient.
  • The business could now mitigate doses that are not due to maximum age and forecast for all doses. It was helpful for practitioners to do appropriate recall of the patients for immunization, reduced unnecessary recalls, and visualise the future forecast for a patient.
  • Improved clinical experience as the strain to look over multiple schedules for the same patient was reduced by 60%.
  • Foundation for the HUB model has been set up to meet the further product road map. This eliminated the existing point-to-point (PTP) interface and acted as a single point of data exchange between the electronic health records and external systems.
  • The manual process of Lab result download was automated which saved time, made the background process robust and automated status notifications.
